Kinabatangan is the second largest river in Borneo. We got there by boat, after a relatively lengthy excursion. Throughout, we were watching the shores and the trees for whatever wildlife would come our way.
During our time there we spent part of another day on the river, as well as taking a night trip out on the water. Our primary target was they pygmy Bornean elephant: which we thought we were going to miss: until late in the afternoon on the second day! At that point a couple on small side tributary turned into an up close herd, that crossed the stream immediately in front of us. In addition, not far from our riverside lodge, we found a fig tree laden with presumably ripe fruit, hosting a fairly large aggregation of macaques.
